About this title

Genevieve Harriott Lybarger (1890-1988) was a strong woman. She not only had to meet the challenge of raising a family but also had to face the deaths of two family while moving from homestead to homestead, but also had to face the deaths of two babies and two sets of twins. After her husband died in 1954, Genevieve went on to live for over three more decades, spending time with her eight children and working at her various hobbies. Filled with hundreds of photographs, some dating back to the 1880s, this book tells not only Genevieve's story but also the story of Canadian pioneers during the early 1900s. In addition, the book details the genealogies of the principal families, notably the Lybargers and the Laphams. Sweet Genevieve is therefore many stories -- historical, personal, and inspirational. The story follows Genevieve's full life -- from homesteading in Saskatchewan during the "Dirty Thirties" to collecting mountains of mementos in her old age. What emerges is a fascinating portrait of a woman who endured the tumultuous changes of the 20th Century.
