About this title

Ron Hirschi and best-selling illustrator Tammy Yee have teamed up to create a young snorkeler's first guide to Hawaiian sea life - "Swimming with Humuhumu." This exploration of fun follows two young siblings, Maddie and Cole, as they discover tropical marine life, surf crystal clear waters and bird watch from the majestic beaches of the Hawaiian Islands. Flap-up cards from Maddie and Cole to their Grandmother allow young readers to share in their experiences. An index in the back of the book helps children learn the English and Hawaiian names of the many marine and land creatures that call the Islands home.

About the Author:

Author Ron Hirschi lives on a small island in western Washington and walks the beach most days of the year. As a biologist, he also spends much time on the water, learning about and helping salmon and other aquatic fish and wildlife. As an author, he brings the excitement of what he learns onto the pages of books for young readers. Ron has written over 50 children's books. His books have been listed as Best Science Trade Books of the year, and won the John Burroughs Nature Book among other awards. Several of his books have been featured on Reading Rainbow.

Illustrator Tammy Yee has worked on more than thirty children's books including "The Tsunami Quilt" (written by Anthony Fredericks, Sleeping Bear Press), Honor Awards winner for the 2008 Storytelling World Awards in the Stories for Pre-Adolescent Listeners category; "A is for Aloha" (written by Uilani Goldsberry, Sleeping Bear Press), selected by the Hawaii Center for the Book to represent the state at the2006 National Book Festival; "Lullaby Moon" (written by Elaine Masters, Island Heritage Publishing), winner of the 2003 Ka Palapala Po'okela Award for Excellence in Children's Books; and the island children's classic, "Baby Honu's Incredible Journey" (Island Heritage Publishing).
