About this Item

"I have chosen to call this book, SWINBURNE'S LITERARY CAREER AND FAME because, unlike the usual work of its type, it is concerned noy merely with criticism of a poet but also with the poet's reactions to that criticism-in short, with the question of his relations to the reading and writing public. There are biological and critical studies enough already; but even the most notable of the literary controversies in which Swinburne was engaged have not been adequately discussed, though some of them have been dealt with in privately printed pamphlets or casual footnotes." This book has 338 pages. The covers and spine have a number of small spots from something dripped on them. This copy, from the front endpaper, was a gift prize at the Bernadello County, New Mexico Amateur Poetry Contest, January 12, 1934 and signed by the three officers of the club.
