In very good condition. 31 pp. *** FIRST EDITION?, This edition is earlier than any we have been able to locate Moreover, we have not been able to locate any reference to the present edition.BARKER (1792-1853), a native of Porto, arrived in Rio de Janeiro in 1810. Devoting himself to primary education, he became one of the most highly regarded teachers. When Brazilian independence was declared in 1822, he was appointed to a commission charged to study the furthering of education and improvements in methods of teaching. The present work is one of more than a dozen by Barker designed to assist in the instruction of his pupils. Barker was a member of a number of learned societies in the newly independent Brazil, perhaps the most noteworthy of which was the Sociedade Litteraria do Rio de Janeiro.*** Cf.
