Two volumes, octavo in original three quarter calf over specked apper covered boards. 821 plus emendana on verso of p. 821(Vol. I) and  to 1380 (Vol. II). Bindings are rubbed but fully intact, text blocks not loose. No endpapers (blanks) in Vol. I. Each volume has various circa 1765 ink notations in Latin here and there in the text as well as on the endpapers and pastedowns. Carl Linnaeus (1707-1778) was a Swedish botanist, physician and zoologist who formalized the system of binomial nomeclature or naming of biological organisms. His seminal opus, Systema Naturae, was first published in Holland in 1735. The 10th edition of 1758 (of which this set is the second printing) is considered the most important and is considered to be the starting point of modern zoological nomenclature.
