Hirsch, and then at Breslau University; due to anti-semitic rules, however, he presented his Ph. D. Thesis at Jena. The History of the Jews, originally written in German, "was the first comprehensive attempt to write the history of the Jews as the history of a living people and from a Jewish point of view, " and Graetz's life work.
