No illustrations. Bumped at top and bottom of spine; Brown blind-stamped cloth with gilt lettering on front cover and spine. Preface. Index. Signed in front: "E. H. Rhodes/Providence/R. I." Rhodes joined the 2nd R. I. Regiment Volunteers in 1861 and rose to commanding Colonel of the Regiment. His writings were published as ALL FOR THE UNION, THE CIVIL WAR DIARY AND LETTERS OF ELISHA HUNT RHODES, which was quoted extensively by Ken Burns in his film: THE CIVIL WAR. He later served as Brig. General in command of the R. I. State Militia, was active in veterans groups, education and civic duties, and was Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Rhode Island. He was a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and Chair of the building committee of the Central Baptist Church in Providence, which has memorialized him with a flagholder, stained glass window, and a fellowship meeting room.
