Contemporary plain full calf with raised bands and gold lines, panelled boards, edges speckled, leather flaw to front hinge Volume 4 (see photos). A nice, simple binding in unusually good condition. A hint of foxing from the endpapers to the prelims otherwise internally good, all pages intact and original endpapers present. Eighteenth century ownership label erased to each paste down, and replaced with an also early signature of Maria Yeats (see photos). A classic of English literature in a contemporary binding, unusual in such good condition. Tatler first appeared from 1709 onwards, and then was frequently reprinted in volume form as here. It would be interesting to establish which Maria Yeats signed the volumes - perhaps Maria Yeats (1792-1820) several of whose letters are in the National Library of Wales. Would make a very nice gift.
