Excerpt from Three Letters From Br Ew IT is a happy reunion of these three letters, now brought together into inseparable companionship. Beyond the sufficient pride of possession in the letters made known in this Keep sake, I have prized them equally for their intrinsic value, as revealing documents for the biographer and historian. Book Description he Southworth-Anthoensen Press, 1941, 1941. Portland: The Southworth-Anthoensen Press, 1941. Octavo, hardcover, quarter white linen and marbled boards. 17 pages, set in Centaur and Arrighi types and printed on fine laid paper. Limited to 350 copies. A fine copy. Hideous title, but a very interesting book. It begins with an Introduction by Edward F. Stevens, owner of the three letters which are printed here for the first time, and which resulted from correspondence by Stevens with Bruce Rogers and Emery Walker. From these letters we obtain Emery Walker's final words revealing the inspiration of the Kelmscott faces and deploring the destruction of the Doves type, we learn from Bruce Rogers the earliest sources for his inspiration to devote himself to book design, and finally Bruce Rogers' forceful thoughts about the methods used to select the Fifty Books of the Year.
