About this Item

A very early reprinting of the first edition, probably the same year as the first as it is still produced to wartime standards. Illustrated throughout by the author in his famous line-sketch style. 8vo, publisherís original tan cloth decorated on the upper cover and spine in orange and black, in the scarce original dustjacket. 369 pp. A very pleasing, near fine copy, very well preserved for a book produced to war standards, the jacket is handsome, the front panel brightly decorated, the spine panel with a bit of expected mellowing to the orange, light rubbing at the extremities, a very small chip from the jacket edge. JAMES THURBER AT HIS BEST. A selection of Thurberís best writings and drawings drawn from 15 years of material. Thurber was an American writer of the finest order whose work is known for its concentrated brilliance, innocent wisdom and wild humor. Heís a humorist whose farce "walks a tightrope over the waterfall of tragedy" as Heywood Broun once observed. - Dustjacket. Bookseller Inventory # 24692
