About this Item
Four volumes, Volumes I, II, III, & V of "The Times Atlas of The World" in the Mid-Century Edition, series of five volumes in total, so Volume IV is not included in this part set. All four volumes are a blue coloured hardback books, with their respective dust jackets, which are a tad worn and torn, please photos. All four volumes have nice gilt titles on front boards and spines. All four books are used and in good condition and as they are use books, normal wear, marks and tear apply consistent with use and age. Volume I: The World, Australasia, & East Asia was published in 1958, and has 34 Index pages and 24 plates, plus Frontispiece. Volume II: South West Asia & Russia, was published in 1959, and has 51 Index pages and 48 plates, Volume III: Northern Europe, was published in 1955, and has 57 Index pages and 72 plates. Volume V: The Americas, was published in 1957, and has 57 Index pages and 120 plates. All plates are coloured beautifully, all pages intact with good bindings, a few of the pages do have the odd brown marks/spots on the side edge of papers, some of the dust jackets are worn and torn, not price clipped but overall all books are actually in reasonably good condition for their age. Please note for overseas buyers all four volumes are large and extremely heavy when packaged properly for shipping, therefore postage/shipping abroad may increase from listed postage/shipping price depending on final destination. Every volume of The Times Atlas has its own Index-Gazetteer section of place names, showing latitudes and longitudes, with a quick and easy system of map location. The maps are printed lithography. The papers used for the maps and text as well as the binding materials, have all been made specifically for The Times Atlas after critical tests for suitability. All maps are mounted on calico binding hinges which provide strength and a flat opening. These Mid-Century Edition Atlas books and maps are so informative of that period of political unrest and change, so its really interesting to see how the world has changed from those Mid-Century Editions were published over 65 years ago.
