Bergman, Ingmar. TORMENT aka "Hets" (Swedish Title). Eight Original Publicity stills from the 1944 Svensk Filmindustri production of Bergman's first screenplay, written in his mid-20s. TORMENT was directed by Alf Sjoberg (although Bergman served as uncredited Assistant Director). These photos date from the first U. S. release in 1947. Very Good condition, pinholes at the corners and some overall light wear. TORMENT has the honor of being the very first of Bergman's 70+ screenplays. An idealistic adolescent, suffering under the thumb of a sadistic schoolmaster, falls in love with a loose girl who is bullied and tormented by another lover (spoiler: it's the evil schoolmaster himself). One of the first films to win the Grand Jury Prize at Cannes. Rare artifacts from the beginning of Berman's remarkable career as film writer, director and all-around auteur.
