Quoting Borba 437: "Henry Koster was born in Portugal at the end of the eighteenth century. His father was a sugar merchant, with a branch in Oporto. After contracting tuberculosis while living in England, Henry decided to move to a warmer and drier climate. Having taken the opportunity to accompany a friend of the family to Pernambuco, he arrived in Recife on December 7, 1809. His health improved, and he started his travels to Paraihiba and Maranh?o. He settled in Pernambuco at the 'Jaguaribe,' a sugar 'engenho,' and later acquired land in Itamarac?, and a 'sitio' in Gamboa. He lived in the Northeast of Brazil until his death in Recife in 1820. During his residence in Brazil he sailed several times to England, where he published his famous book in 1816. Today it is a classic work on the North of Brazil. The plates were made from his own drawings by a close relative. In the appendix he transcribes two monographs by Arruda Camara, rare today, which appeared in Rio in 1810. Size: 8vo. 0.0.
