94 pages. Ebernezer Hoar was admitted to the bar in 1835 (fifty-six years ago), and served the law at the bar and on the bench for more than a half century and was a antislavery whig. He was Attorney General of the United States for more than a year in the first term of President Grant, he was a member of the House of Representatives in 1872 and 1873 and a Associate Justice of the Supreme Judicial Court." VERY GOOD HARDCOVER, with a short letter signed by George F. Hoar, on United States Senate letterhead form 1895. This book is also signed by Edward L. Pierce, Esq (Mass. Republican). Delegate to Republican National Convention from Massachusetts, 1860 and author of the biography of Charles Sumner. *George F. Hoar (1826 - 1904) served as the 21st and 23rd Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee from 1891 to 1893 and 1895 to 1903. Born in 1826 in Concord, Massachusetts, Hoar graduated from Harvard University and Harvard Law School. He was elected to the Massachusetts State House of Representatives in 1852 and the Massachusetts State Senate in 1857. Hoar was then elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1869, where he remained until 1877, when he secured a seat in the U.S. Senate. While in the Senate, Hoar served as Chairman of the Committee on Privileges and Elections, Committee on the Judiciary, and the Committee on the Library. Along with Senator George Edmunds, Hoar authored the Sherman Antitrust Act of 1890. He remained in the Senate until his death in 1904. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Bookseller Inventory # 020821
