About this Item

Signed by author on title page. When Rebecca Harris was murdered in front of the Orange County Journal offices, she left behind friends and colleagues shocked at her senseless death. But she also left behind an emotional mystery. There were two men in her life: Joshua Weinstein--the tough, dark, passionate, Jewish FBI agent she was engaged to; and John Menden--the blond, WASP, slick newsman who was her lover. Both men silently knew of the other's existence in Rebecca's life--and each hoped that when she made her ultimate decision between them, he would be the one chosen. Now, six months after the murder, a scarred and driven Weinstein has discovered the identity of the murderer--but doesn't have the evidence to make an arrest. And the only person he knows who is as driven and intense about avenging the murder is Menden--a man whom the obsessed Weinstein has had under surveillance all this time, watching to see if Menden has the guts to join him on his crusade of revenge. Menden's role is to go undercover inside the secret domain of a right-wing private security organization that was behind the killing--and get the proof. But Menden doesn't expect that his target will be quite as intelligent and seductive as he turns out to be; nor that his daughter will be quite so alluring. Is he here because he's expendable? Is this Weinstein's final revenge for Rebecca's infidelity? And whom, finally, should he trust? T. Jefferson Parker is a three-time winner of the Edgar Award, and also the author of PACIFIC BEAT, LITTLE SAIGON, WHERE SERPENTS LIE, BLACK WATER, and SILENT JOE, CALIFORNIA GIRL, and others. About this title

Synopsis:

The senseless murder of Rebecca Harris leads the two men in her life--Joshua Weinstein, a Jewish FBI agent and her fiance+a7, and her lover, journalist John Menden--to join forces to find her killer, a quest that leads to a vicious right-wing fascist organization.

Review:

When a woman is mistakenly assassinated by a sniper from a white supremacist militia, her death brings together her FBI agent fiancee and her journalist lover, John Menden. The two team up to exact revenge by destroying the militia group, known as the Freedom Ring, with Menden infiltrating the group's Liberty Ridge compound. When he falls in love with the commander's daughter the plot becomes tautly complicated. In a scenario grounded in events on the right-wing fringes of U.S. society, Parker engineers a grandly violent climax to assuage all Menden's macho hatred.
