Book Description Chicago: Spalding and La Montes, 1868. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 8vo, original green cloth, gilt spine stamping, 288pp. LACKING INITIAL AD LEAF (pp. 1-2), BUT OTHERWISE COMPLETE. An oddly collated book: the title page appears at page 13 and is preceded by six leaves of illustrated display ads, including a COLORED IMAGE OF A STUDEBAKER WAGON. Pages 249-288 are also fully devoted to display ads, many of them with illustrations. Altogether, a fully comprehensive guide book for Western travel, from Cleveland to Chicago, and all the way over the Rocky Mountains, indicating routes used by sundry major and minor railroad systems of the day. One section elaborates on the Wyoming Territory (pp. 214-232). Interestingly enough, the ad leaf facing the title page gets to promote the author (T. G. Turner, Attorney at Law, South Bend, Indiana) and the publisher (Spalding and La Montes, Printers, Stationers and Binders, 138 Lake Street, Chicago). ANTE-FIRE IMPRINTS 1414. GRAFF 4211. First Edition. A good+ to Very Good copy. Seller Inventory # E-53/18
