Green cloth w/gilt lettering, 214 pp. Bookplate. Rankin was a Presbyterian missionary and teacher. In 1847 she came to Texas & in 1854 opened the Rio Grande Female Institute in Brownsville. During the Civil War she taught free blacks in New Orleans. Virually an autobiography as it begins with her work in Kentucky, includes Texas and stints in Mexico as well. Fine copy.
