Bell, Josephine (1897-1987). TWO AUTOGRAPH LETTERS, SIGNED. One original stamped envelope preserved. In Near Fine condition. Albury Road, Guildford, 14/4/56 & 16/10/56. To a friend, nice content. Bell was a prolific author of detective novels but she was also a practicing physician. In her books, medical mysteries were often featured and her primary detective character was a doctor/sleuth. She wrote just under fifty novels and in one of these letters we offer, she comments on their scarcity: "One of the reasons why there are so few of my older titles about is that several [of these] early editions were burned in the blitz on London and not afterwards reprinted. We had a paper shortage for many years after the war. I, too, hope that Macmillan will reprint some of the early ones." A small but appealing archive from a writer whose work stands the test of time and who really shouldn't be quite so forgotten. Included is a lovely original press photo of the author.
