About this Item

Inscribed to Niels Bohr Kayser, Heinrich (1853-1940). Tabelle der Schwingungszahlen der auf das Vakuum reduzierten Wellenlangen zwischen l 2000 A und l 10,000 A. 4to. v, [1], 106pp. Leipzig: S. Hirzel, 1925. 254 x 187 mm. Original cloth, spine a bit soiled. Endpapers browned, but very good. From the library of Niels Bohr (1885-1962), with his signature stamp; Kayser's signed presentation inscription to Bohr on front endpaper. First Edition. Kayser is best known for his extensive investigations in spectroscopy begun in the 1880s with Carl Runge. Kayser succeeded Heinrich Hertz as professor of physics at the University of Bonn, which became during Kayser's tenure a center of spectroscopic investigations. The present work is a series of tables of oscillation values of wavelengths reduced in a vacuum to between l 2000 and l 10,000 . Kayser presented this copy to Niels Bohr; both Kayser's presentation inscription and Bohr's signature stamp appear on the front endpaper. See Pais, Niels Bohr's Times, p. 141, citing Kayser's classic Handbuch der Spektroskopie (1900-1932). Bookseller Inventory # 38623
