About this title:

Synopsis: Taking A Stand On Civil Rights In Memory Of Justice John Harlan who wrote in 1896, "The law regards man as man, and takes no account of his surroundings or of his color when his civil rights, as guaranteed by the supreme law of the land are involved." The author has chosen to use a question-answer format in order to make the often complex subject matter, easier and more enjoyable to read. Although Taking A Stand On Civil Rights was written just before Justice Thurgood Marshall resigned, Rogers contrasts his current attitude toward natural rights with the attitude he adopted in Brown v. Board of Education in 1954 where he argued that the "Constitution is colorblind". Find out why . . . The book is dedicated to Justice Harlan who was in the 1950s, Thurgood Marshall's hero. (Civil Rights pp 7-8) The Back Caucus voted with labor against low-income blacks in 1991. (Civil Rights p.14-15) A poll found that over 75% of blacks were opposed to preferential treatment. (Civil Rights p.16) Quotas are illegal, but call them goals and you're politically correct (Civil Rights p.24) A black child sued because he was refused entrance to a superior school across the street from his house and bused to an inferior school across town. (Civil Rights p. 61) It may not be poverty that breeds crime but rather crime that breeds poverty. (Civil Rights p.65)
