Book Description Astor Books, New ,York, 1965. Hard Cover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. First Edition. Boards (HB) in very good condition with 4 of red numbers written inside cover. Light wear, book edges and top and bottom of spine. Elisa Chimenti has a background as exotic as any of the tales contained in her book. Italian by birth, she was raised in Tunis where her father was the personal physician to Sultan Maulay Hassan. Frequently traveling with her father, dressed and veiled in the Mohammedan fashion, she was often the guest of Berber tribesmen from whom she learned many of the tales included in this book. After finishing her education she returned to Tangiers to study Semitic languages and there she acquired a sound knowledge of the Koran. She was the only European ever invited to teach in an Arabic University, was instrumental in establishing the first Italian schools in Morocco, and was awarded the Italian Government Order of Merit in 1959. Author of thirty books in the French and Arabic languages, this is the first translation of her works for the English-speaking world. Translated from the French by Arnon Benamy. 155 pages with glossary. Size: 7¾" - 9¾. Seller Inventory # 011006
