About this Item

SIGNED with personal Inscription. First Edition Third printing. 8 ½ inches tall. 326 pages. Rust brown cloth covered boards with black line decorations and spine titles. Bindings square and tight. Text toned as is typical of this issue. Light shelf wear.---- Dust jacket is poor with loss on all edges and more-so on spine. Now protected in Mylar sleeve. ALSO INCLUDED IS A NEW FACIMILE DUST JACKET>------Inscription was made In Miami: February 3, 1958 to a member of the Sea Bees who had met Michener in the Pacific. The recipient was working in a restaurant on Miami Beach frequented by Michener. They struck up a conversation and the next day had the book signed. There is also a small newspaper article taped inside.------According the nephew, the book resided for many years in a case in a VFW which perhaps accounts for the poor handling of the Dust jacket. Additionally, the nephew told me that his uncle was mentioned in the book (not by name) I can't confirm this. --------- Tales of the South Pacific won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1948.
