This pamphlet recounts one of the most notorious Ku Klux Klan atrocities in Florida history. In December, 1935 Joseph Shoemaker and Eugene Poulnot, two Tampa labor organizrs with ties to the Socialist Party, were kidnaped, torture, and tarred and feathered by Tampa city police in co-operation with the KKK. Shoemaker, who was also castrated, eventually died from his injuries. Though a number of Klansmen were apprehended in the case, no one was ever prosecuted fro Shoemaker's murder. This pamphlet, written to draw attention to the facts of the case, was co-authored by members of the Committee for the Defense of Civil Rights in Tampa, whose Chairman was Socialist Party presidential candidate, Norman Thomas. ; B&W Cover Illustration; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 15 pages.
