About this Item

This book will close its own text block and would thus grade "very good" save that someone has torn out and thrown away the entire free front endpaper, presumably to get rid of a previous owner's name or overly gushy gift inscription. In red cloth boards; bottom front corner banged. Jacket also "good" with small triangular chip to bottom of rear panel and a moderate dampstain to bottom of spine. Glossy frontispiece. This title sixth and last Ted Scott to DJ front flap and to verso of title page, so this could easily be mistaken for a 1928 first printing, but list of Ted Scott titles at REAR of book makes this title sixth of eight, indicating this is either the second or third printing, 1929. Sorry. Still a great piece of Walter Rogers cover art, with Ted's Silver Streak banking low over what looks like a comic-opera version of the Mexican Revolution. Purportedly by the author of The Hardy Boys adventures, though in fact Dixon was a "house name" of the Stratemeyer Syndicate, in this case used by one Frank Duffield. The Ted Scott adventures reportedly outsold Leslie McFarlane's Hardy Boys series by a good margin, during their early years. Boys' juvenile series adventure. 218 pp.; here reduced from $47.
