About this Item

A near-fine juvenile aviation adventure in brown (not red) composition boards. Glossy frontispiece. Dust jacket "good" or better with chipping to head and heel of spine; chip at head of spine removing the letter "S" of title. Wonderful jacket art of Ted banking his plane over a gold-bedecked Mexican commandante and his small band of comic-opera mestizo revolutionaries. 17 Ted Scotts to jacket front flap, through "Brushing the Mountain Top" (1934), while list at rear of text offers 18 Ted Scotts through "Castaways of the Stratosphere" (1935.) But DJ rear flap advertises 16 "X Bar X Boys" through "Hunting the Prize Mustangs" (1937), and publisher's ad to final page of text offers three Fran Striker Lone Rangers through "Gold Robbery" (1939), giving us the latest likely date for this volume. Gift inscription and rubber-stamped PON to top corner of FFE. Small brown stains to bottom page edges, but blue topstain is pristine. Purportedly by the author of The Hardy Boys adventures, though in fact Dixon was a "house name" of the Stratemeyer Syndicate, in this case used by one Frank Duffield. The Ted Scott adventures reportedly outsold Leslie McFarlane's Hardy Boys series by a good margin, during their early years. 215 pp. plus the aforementioned 2 pp. publisher's ads, all in nice shape. Reduced from $47. Bookseller Inventory # 004439
