About this Item

Kleber examines the relationship of the temple of Eanna in Uruk and the Babylonian kings during the Late-Babylonian period, resulting from an in-depth analysis of 7000 texts, 2400 of which are hitherto unpublished. An overview of the history of the administrative structure of Eanna (chapter 2) and of the influence of the kings on the economy of the temple (chapter 3) is followed by the central part of the study: the various forms of taxes, tributes, and obligations the temple, its staff, and its employees had to pay, to deliver, and to perform (chapter 4): Special attention is paid to the royal building activity, which the Eanna temple had to support throughout the Babylonian Empire (chapter 4.7). The kings in exchange acted as protector of the divine service in Uruk and could profit directly by the sacrifices (chapter 7). Bookseller Inventory # KLETEMPEL
