About this title

Synopsis:

Tent City, An Arizona Tragedy, is a fictionalized account of one woman's stay in the Maricopa county jail that federal government sources as well as international judges have described as 'inhumane'. Based on hours of interviews and extensive research, Tent City provides a detailed look at the monotonous routine associated with confinement at that institution and vividly describes the mental anguish which accompanies it.

About the Author:

Carl Messinger is a decorated Vietnam veteran and retired Army major who started his writing career in the early 80's while stationed in Germany. Traveling through Europe, he saw the opportunity to write travel articles and began taking notes of his travels and putting them down on paper. After about six months of submitting travel articles to numerous publications, his story about Heidelberg was finally accepted and ran in World Traveling magazine. Returning from Germany, Carl, an amateur thespian, lived near Philadelphia. Combining his knowledge of the theatre and his ability to write, he covered the local theatre scene for several newspapers. In 1985, Carl moved to Northern Virginia and continued his coverage of the theatre scene, including the famed Folger's Theatre in Washington D.C. Putting aside his writing till a couple of years ago, Carl concentrated on his other career. However, when the opportunity came along to tell Nora's story, he jumped at the chance to get back into writing. The result, Tent City, An Arizona Tragedy. This is Carl's first novel. His second novel, The German Triangle, is in the works.
