Original printed wraps 14 x 22cm. 36pp. Covers fair, with tears, and some loss to spine. Interiors good, creased to lower corner with spotting. The author prepared this while preparing a translation and commentary of a unique Arabic manuscript in the East India Office (the History of the Resuliyy Dynasty of the Kings of Yemen to the death of Melik Eshref II, by Khazrejiyy), and decided to publish it separately for a wider audience. It covers from the earliest times up to the accession of Yezid, son of the Caliph Maawiya I of Damascus. James William Redhouse (1811-92) served the Ottoman government as interpreter to the Grand Vizier, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and sat on the Naval Council. He was also involved in attempts to negotiate treaties for Britain and the Ottomans with Persia. After retirement he wrote language books and other works.
