About this Item

First printing. Blindstamped dark brown cloth292 pps.; illustrated with woodcuts and engravings. A tight, internally fresh copy with the spine strip moderately rubbed resulting in the gilt of the the lettering being rather dulled; small corner stains to the free endpapers apparently from an old book cover. SIGNED BY ONE OF THE CONTRIBUTORS, MARY B. RUDEBOCK (who has signed her name phonetically on the first blank and who authored Appendix C, "The Villages by The Sea".). Printed in the phonetic typeface which Larison utilzed for his school. Scarce account of tours taken in 1882 by Larison and his students from the Academy of Science and Art which was located in the west-central New Jersey hamlet of Ringos (alt: Ringoes). The group travelled across the state, particularly into Monmouth and Ocean Counties as far as the Jersey Shore towns of Squan Beach, Manasquan, Asbury Park, Barnegat and Bay Head. The accounts of this tour, illustrated throughout with etchings of scenes, the carryall tent wagon used , tools and implements, provide an important source of primary information about the region, which includes Monmouth Battlefield. An explemplary copy of a scarce work. Bookseller Inventory # D994
