About this Item

Translation by John Heron Lepper. Introduction by John Payne. Small 4to. Black cloth spine with gilt lettering and tan/brown hand-made paper over boards. xxxvi, 316pp. Frontispiece. Very good. Spine lettering rubbed; bit of faint foxing to preliminary leaves. A tight and attractive copy of this edition limited to 1050 numbered copies (this #902). Other contributors include Algernon Swinburne, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Arthur Symons and Ezra Pound. Spine title: "Complete Poems of Francois Villon." Villon (1431-ca. 1463) was by far the best known French poet of the late Middle Ages, a renowned shady character whose verse chronicles his escapades; modern interest in his work seems to have peaked in the 1920s.
