About this Item

8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Published between 1901 and 1902 usually the three volumes only survive when bound together. Here they are still separately in original wraps. The author was a schoolmaster in Scotland who settled in London writing plays, ballads and poems. In 1901 when he began this trilogy in blank verse he expounded a materialistic and rebellious philosophy which the establishment found appalling. After thorougly expounding these ideas in his introduction to the Theatrocrat in 1905, his ideas were found disturbing even to many free thinkers. He committed suicide in 1909.
