Octavo. 399p, Contains the testimony of Nathan Bedford Forest in June 1871 (p. 3-41) who though he was the First Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan claims to have had the group disbanded. Bedford who had been a slave trader before the Civil War and a strong defender of the Confederacy appears to be difficult to place with obvious mixed sentiments. He gave an address in 1875 to a black Memphis civic group which was well-received. In addition to his testimony, pages 55-310 deal with the Ku Klux Klan in Florida which in one account is said to have murdered over 200 blacks in that state. A very scarce item in its original calf binding. While the Senate Committee also published reports on the Carolinas, the one on Florida is considered the most difficult to find.
