About this title

A fire-storm of fast-paced action. Profound beauty. Fortunes won and lost. Unforgettable characters led by a young American entrepreneur fight for survival in a sordid and sublime world that trades on trust and its unavoidable counterpart, betrayal. Reminiscent of James Clavell. Written by Jacques Bailhe, a reporter/photographer for The Nation in the early 70’s, the first foreign novice priest ever ordained by a Supreme Patriarch of Thailand, Thai Heaven is an epic novel of romance and intrigue at the highest levels of government and international business in Thailand, based in part on the life-lessons rendered with such beauty and wit in the epic tale of the ancient Ramayana. The conflicting cultural attitudes challenge our conceptions of faith, confidence, and love.

About the Author:

Jacques Bailhe’s family lived in Thailand for eighteen years. While at Hampshire College, Amherst, MA, Mr. Bailhe made an ethnographic study of a Meo hilltribe village near the Burmese border in the opium producing region known as the Golden Triangle. Mr. Bailhe worked as a reporter/photographer for The Nation in Bangkok in 1971 and in 1969, was ordained as a novice Buddhist priest by His Holiness the Supreme Patriarch of Thailand. He now lives in California working as an award-winning filmmaker, writer, and composer.
