After graduating from Yale, he worked as science and medicine editor for Newsweek, and was a science director for CBS where he directed and produced newscast. He was later a member of the editorial board of Scientific American. He served as a consultant to the National Science Foundation, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and industrial companies. He was a member of, and former president of, the National Association of Science Writers.
