Item description from seller

Printed in London in 1799, this volume by Thomas Martyn offers 38 hand-colored botanical plates paired with Linnaean classification commentary. Martyn, a professor at Cambridge, prepared the text and illustrations for use in teaching and self-study during a period of increasing attention to botanical categorization. The copy includes bookplates from Sir Marcus Somerville, a collector and parliamentarian, and Robert J. Hayhurst, a 20th-century scientific bibliophile. Very Good. Leather binding with marbled boards and gilt spine remains sound; internal pages are intact and plates are clean. Octavo (8vo), single volume. Collation: vi, [2], 72 pp. Illustrations: 38 hand-colored botanical plates. References: #29096 PHOTOS AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST.
