Add to basketThis is an unusual saddle-stitched (cloth) booklet with four internal colour engravings of the Three White Kittens (Tiny, Tittens and Tit). The pictures are certainly cute but in a very realistic way - perhaps suggesting that the unnamed illustrator was either familiar with cats or, if not, an extremely capable artist.
As well as absence of the illustrator's name, there is also no published reference to the author.
Two of them (illustrating the Merry Kitten and the Greedy Kitten poems) appear to be printed on cloth-backed paper. The other two are printed on the front and rear pastedowns (presumed to be card) - this time illustrating the Cross Kitten and the Frightened Kittens (DEAR! Oh dear! a dog is near!).
Each poem references an air - e.g. the air for the Merry Kitten is Roast Beef of Old England.
Condition (external): tanning is visible on both the upper and lower (card) covers; especially at and near the booklet's edges. In addition, the card near the stitching along the spine is quite frayed in places.
Condition (internal): again the tanning is obvious (with occasional foxing) especially on the pages featuring the poems. The better news is that the images are less affected; especially those printed on the above-mentioned cloth-back sections.
Unpaginated. Undated. 8vo.
