Three -page manucript letter, total of five sides, dated May 11th, 1874 from Quincy, Adams Co., Iowa. Lined paper 7 1/2" x 12" , final page on letterhead of the State Insurance company of Des Moines. From a man to his friend in New York State, reading in part: "I suppose that you would like to have me give you some account of this Eden of America, this fairy land of the West.Where the gentle zephyrs fan the cheek of the wayfarer, wearing the skin thereof threadbare in a very short space of time." The writer complains of a lack of business to make a living but goes on to say , "If a man wants to buy good land in a healthy locality, let him come out here." and goes on to describe several properties for sale in terms of acreage and price. He goes on to discuss his situation and notes that the friend with whom he is staying suffres for debt and ill health but ".has something . he can do something is a reciept (sic) for curing eggs which does its work so effectually that you can ship them to Europe and back if you choose without.spoiling."
