About this Item

In all 6 pp. Fine. Bowman (1878-1950) was a prolific American geographer who served as Woodrow Wilson's territorial advisor at the Versailles conference. He was also the president of Johns Hopkins from 1935-1948. Goodwin was a prominent Los Angeles urologist and taught as an Assistant in Urology at Johns Hopkins. The first letter, dated July 1, 1946, is initialed by Bowman and serves as a formal appointment of Goodwin to his the position of Assistant in Urology at the university. The second letter, dated June 4, 1947, is a congratulatory note from Bowman to Goodwin commending him on his receipt of a Fellowship in the Medical Sciences. In this letter, he includes a copy of a letter dated May 31, 1947, from Robert F. Loeb of the Medical Fellowship Board to Bowman informing him of Goodwin's achievement. The unsigned draft, dated June 23, 1947, is an unfinished and unsigned response from Goodwin to Bowman's commendation. It is quite creased as if at one time it had been balled up for the trash. The next letter, dated June 14, 1948, is from Bowman and serves as formal appointment of Goodwin to his position of Instructor in Urology (full-time) at the university. The final letter, dated June 10, 1948, is from Edwin L. Crosby, director of the Johns Hopkins Hospital, and serves as formal appointment of Goodwin to the position of Resident, Urology at that institution. Bookseller Inventory # M11765
