Three typed letters signed by Mencken
A brief typed letter signed by Mencken on personal stationary, written to a Mr. Woodward. Mencken writes: "Dear Mr. Woodward: My best thanks. I only hope Dr. Houghton succeeds in his campaign. The holy Christian religion is in peril, and must be protected!" Offered with two other short typed letters signed by Mencken, one on letterhead from The American Mercury again written to Mr. Woodward. The other is on personal stationary and is addressed to My Dear Bob. In this letter Mencken writes: "Little did I reck when I was an ambitious young newspaper reporter that I'd ever enjoy the stupendous honor of seeing my effigy in The Saturday Evening Post." He ascribes the appearance to "earnest prayer and a clean life." A nice group of letters from the irascible Mencken. Bookseller Inventory # 4592
