Two sets of hand-painted cards. One set, painted on paper-backed cloth (with the exception of one card painted directly on paper), contains fourteen cards each measuring 2 3/4 by 3 1/4 inches; the second set, painted on stiff paper, contains six cards, five of which measure 3 1/4 by 3 3/4 inches and one measuring 3 3/4 by 4 3/4 inches. All but two of the cards bear manuscript prayers in Sanskrit on the other side. The icons depicted on the smaller set are symbolic, while those on the larger set are concerned with aspects of the deity. These latter are somewhat more crudely rendered and colored, while the smaller set is more accomplished, though also reflects greater wear, with slight fraying at the edges and some loss of paint due to rubbing. Despite this, the cards mostly do retain the depth and vibrancy of their colors. Both sets housed in a painted fabric folder. Bookseller Inventory #
