About this Item

Glued binding. 144 p. Illustrations (color). Further Reading. Index. From Wikipedia: "Kum Nye and sKu-mNy are a wide variety of Tibetan religious and medical body practices. The two terms are different spellings of the same Tibetan phrase, which literally means "massage of the subtle body". Some systems of sku mnye are similar to Yoga, T'ai chi or therapeutic massage. "Kum Nye", Ku Nye, and Kunye are also used to transcribe the Tibetan phrases dku mnye ("belly massage") and bsku mnye ("oil massage"). dKu mnye and bsku mnye manipulate the physical body, rather than the subtle (energetic) one. Systems of Kum Nye are found in many Tibetan Buddhist and Bn traditions. These can be entirely different both in purpose and in methods. For instance, some forms are very slow moving; others are intensely aerobic. Some systems are based in the Tibetan Medical Tantras (scriptures), and are mainly therapeutic. Three systems of sku mnye have been described and taught in detail in English. One of these are Tarthang Tulku's Kum Nye. Very good. Some minor page soiling noted. Revised edition [stated]. First printing [stated]. Bookseller Inventory # 70426

About this title

Kum Nye is a holistic healing system first documented in 8th-century Tibetan scripts, and it aims to liberate the body’s energy so that it flows freely for optimum health. Now it’s brought to the West and systematized by Lama Tarthang Tulku, so everyone can experience the benefits of this yoga-like Buddhist tradition. Featuring more than 70 relaxation exercises, this guide progresses logically from simple breath control and sitting postures to full-body self-massages and deep stretching movements. Gentle and suitable for all ages, these procedures promote emotional and physical well-being by relieving tension, heightening energy, improving concentration, and renewing clarity of the senses. More than 200 photographs, coupled with simple and detailed instructions, make this a unique and beautiful introduction.

About the Author:

Tarthang Tulku was educated in Tibet in the Buddhist tradition and is internationally known as an innovative teacher and a visionary thinker. After ten years in India, where he taught and published rare Tibetan texts, he relocated to the USA in 1969, where he has since spent his time introducing the benefits of Buddhist philosophy to Westerners. In 1973 he founded the Nyingma Institute in Berkeley, California. Here, drawing upon his familiarity with Tibetan medical theory and healing techniques, he worked with his students to develop a unique system of deep relaxation for Westerners that harmonizes and energizes the faculties of body and mind.
