About this title

Synopsis:

During his two-year London sabbatical, 25-year independent school educator Mr. Nat Damon researched and wrote a book about relational teaching titled, Time to Teach: Time to Reach - Expert Teachers Give Voice to the Power of Relational Teaching. Just in time for purchase as a faculty summer reading book for this upcoming summer, Time to Teach: Time to Reach is being published by Relational Schools Foundation, an education-based nonprofit in Cambridge, UK. http://relationalschools.org/Time to Teach: Time to Reach is informed by over 100 interviews with K-12 school educators in the US and abroad. These interviews center around the question, “what do expert teachers really do”? Every teacher interviewed is an expert teacher, meaning that each interviewee has taught for more than 10 years. As a result, they are able to put content and curriculum aside and focus on the relational strengths they bring to their K-12 classrooms. These relational strengths are the six central characteristics expert relational teachers demonstrate every day: Building Trust, Encouraging Exploration, Being Authentic, Fostering Connection, Cultivating Hope, and Making Room for Reflection (TEACH-R). These teacher voices contribute toward a non-prescriptive and anecdotal book that celebrates the hard work - and the heart-work - that define relational teaching.Time to Teach: Time to Reach by Nat Damon examines relational teaching through the experiences of expert teachers. The focus is on building trust, encouraging exploration, being authentic, fostering connection, cultivating hope, and making room for reflection. A very important read considering the divides in our country today—DONNA OREM, PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS (NAIS)"Time to Teach, Time to Reach will make you want to call your favorite teacher and thank them for giving you that extra book, taking the time to edit your paper side-by-side, inspiring you in a way you didn’t know you could be inspired. The stories are heartfelt and enlightening. Whether you’re a teacher, a parent, or someone completely removed from a classroom, Damon presents a north star: A better world comes from investing in one another."—GOOP, “THE ENDURING POWER OF RELATIONAL TEACHING”“While Time to Teach: Time to Reach is technically a book aimed at educators and parents, it is also keenly useful for people in all different organizations and industries. This book is about relationships. It’s about building trust and establishing connection, something Nat has effectively done in writing and sharing his book. I recommend it for anyone seeking wisdom and strategy toward establishing closer relationships on their professional team - teaching or otherwise.”— LORI PALKO, FOUNDER, LOVE MONEY PURPOSE, LLC“Nat’s book, Time to Teach: Time to Reach, brings us all into the world of being a teacher today, and it does so with a focus on how hope, trust and connection are at the heart of any strong teacher-student relationship. I recommend it for anyone interested in teaching, and for any parent looking to better communicate with their children’s teachers. Nat’s book is accessible to all - educators and allies alike, and his salons and workshops speak to its central message that great teaching is rooted in great relationships. ”— NICK MELVOIN, VICE-PRESIDENT, BOARD OF EDUCATION, LOS ANGELES UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT (DISTRICT FOUR)“I’ve been in education for over 25 years, and Nat Damon’s “Time To Teach” gets right to the heart of what makes any teacher great. Thank God someone wrote this book. I recommend it to all my colleagues.”— JOHN FINLEY, HEAD OF SCHOOL, EPIPHANY SCHOOL IN BOSTON
