Peter Keisogloff Rare Books, Inc.
(Brecksville, OH, U.S.A.)

Book Description Cleveland: Rowfant Club, 1903. No Binding. Condition: Fine. No Jacket. A folded announcement, printed on one side of a sheet of thick, textured, gray paper card, measuring 5 7/8 in. x 9 7/8 in. "At The Rowfant Club Saturday Evening March 14th, 1903 Mr. Wilm Knox will talk on Mushrooms and Toadstools illustrated by original water colors and drawings. F. H. Neff Secretary." At the top of the sheet is a Wilm Knox drawing (possibly a bookplate) of a toad sitting on a toadstool chair and drinking from a cup with skull & crossbones design. In front of the toad is a toadstool table. The toad is smoking a long pipe, and is shaded by a cattail with a dangling spider. This is printed in green on a thin sheet of 3 ½ in. x 2 ¾ in. paper. This copy was folded for mailing and sent to Mr. H. A. Sherwin 100 Canal St. City [Cleveland, Ohio]. A cancelled, green, one-cent U.S. Franklin stamp is present. The back shows an opened red-wax seal with the R. C. [Rowfant Club] initials. Wilm Knox was the head of a Cleveland based architectural firm, and had an interest in both botany and in mushrooms, of which he produced colored drawings. This copy was sent to Henry Alden Sherwin (1842-1916; founder of Sherwin-Williams Paint Company), an early Rowfant Club member and collector of fishing and angling books. A rare item.
