Armorial bookplate of Charles Morgan of New York (rampant griffin). Antoine Isaac, Baron Silvestre de Sacy, was a French Orientalist. He was born in Paris. He studied Hebrew in order to verify the accuracy of the Latin and French versions of the Bible, and to this he later added many other Semitic languages. The books of Tobit, Judith, and Esther are usually run together. Each deals with the lives of individual people. These people were heroes or heroines coming through some major difficulties.
