8vo. 656p. 13 wood engraved plates and numerous wood engravings with the text. Re-backed and re-hung in publisher's cloth boards, preserving original spine and endpapers. The binding is well rubbed, discolored and spotted. Gilt stamped illustration on front cover and on spine; inner hinges neatly strengthened. Pages are generally clean with an occasional mild spot of marginal foxing or staining. Bottom corner tip clipped on pp.459-60. Tiny hole in bottom margin of pp.603-04. The outer edges of 1 signature jut out several mm. from the text block and are thus slightly worn. Illustrated with plans and perspective buildings. Contains also "Invaluable suggestions and information on domestic economy, general farming, fancy gardening, fruit raising, breeding and management of horses, cattle, sheep, swine, poultry " Sereno Edwards Todd (1820-1898) was the Agricultural and Horticultural Editor of the New York Times.
