William Blackwood, Edinburgh, and T. Cadell, London. 1834. Condtion Fair/Poor. Second edition (stated, makes ref to prior printing in Blackwood s Mag) Two volumes, original decorated cloth, badly frayed at edges. Sunned boards on Vol I separated from bindings, Vol II, nearly so. Front and rear papers soiled but the text block itself is generally clean. Book Plate Mr. Ellis, 10 Grosvenor Place, Camberwell. 
 A second edition (stated) of Michael Scott's semi-autobiographical sea story. Tom Cringle's log was originally a serial for Blackwood's Magazine in 1829. Published under the name Tom Cringle, Scott's authorship remained unknown until after his death. Michael Scott travelled to Jamaica which influenced Cringle's log and his autobiographical portraits of Jamaica in the 1820's. Critics noted Scott as a perceptive and sympathetic yet transient observer. Seller Inventory # 2007-044
