About this title

Synopsis:

Written specifically for African Americans, this unique and realistic guide leads parents and students through the steps that should be taken at every grade level in order to gain acceptance into the most suitable college available. Through long-term planning and execution, students will be able to develop the long-term extracurricular activities that are the hallmarks of the well-rounded academics that admissions officials seek. Activities that show dedication and commitment to an applicant’s social surroundings—such as volunteering and community service—are highlighted for their desirability and their positive demonstration of time management abilities. Lists of historically black colleges and universities, a catalog of scholarship-granting organizations, and examples of successful interview answers round out this invaluable college preparation manual for conscientious parents and ambitious students.
