About this Item

"Tom Swift in the City of Gold or Marvelous Adventures Underground" by Victor Appleton. First edition thus, later printing. Published by Grosset & Dunlap, New York. The copyright states 1912 but is a later printing. In late 1932, the book covers were changed to plain orange and the blank endpapers changed to illustrate various scenes in orange and white. Prior to 1932, the boards were changed several times, with the series prior to the orange boards tan with four quadrant illustrations in red and black. Full color dust jackets for the Tom Swift series were printed from 1926-1935 (Vols. 1-38). Our copy has both the orange boards and endpapers and a full color jacket, leading us to believe the book was printed between 1932-35. The book measures 5" x 7.5", 216 pages with an additional 4 pages of publisher's advertisements. Illustrated black and white frontispiece. The original dust jacket is in good to good minus condition. Paper loss at the front flap fold and at the edges of the spine, affecting the title and publisher. Soiling to the rear panel. Tape repair to the verso at the front flap fold. Pencil check marks on the front flap. The last book listed on the front flap is "Tom Swift Circling the Globe". The book is in very good minus condition. Small ding to the rear board with gently bumped corners; the front corner is discolored. Minor sunning to the spine. Previous owner's inscription in ink on the front endpaper. Faint foxing to the fore-edge of the textblock. The textblock is clean and bright with tight binding. The last book listed in the series is "Tom Swift and His Air Glider".
