About this Item

No DJ as issued. This book is truly unbelievable! Not author signed, but ILLUSTRATOR SIGNED on ffep! Reads "For Kerry, Patience Brewster, 1989" with a clown drawn in the center like the ones used in the book. This was obviously someone very special to her, as this is the only example that I could find offered for sale anywhere that she had signed at all. SC book has black & red font on spine, black font on fc, and full color illustration on fc as well. Book is in FINE Shape, bright, crisp, and shiney, as new and unread but for some very faint storage box yellowing on front page edges (barely noticeable unless you are actively looking for it). Still quite shiny without any shelf wear, scuffs, or other usage damage of any kind. No DJ as issued. Size: 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall First Edition, Paperback, First Printing. About this title

Synopsis:

"Don't touch my room!" becomes "Don't touch my baby!" when a child's antipathy turns into protective feelings towards his new baby brother.

From School Library Journal:

Kindergarten-Grade 2 The virtue of this picture book is that it depicts a young child's fears about his place in a family expecting a new baby. The book begins slowly but imaginatively as the child describes his room as his special place. He then describes the changes being made to accommodate the new baby, and the special place within his room that his parents have created just for him. Disgusted with the attention the new baby is getting, he resorts to his secret retreatuntil, finally, the day comes when he becomes protective and shares this space with his toddler brother. The illustrations are clear and colorful, in a combination of muted tones and primary colors, adding to the book's quiet appeal. Stencil-like corner decorations appear on many of the bordered pages. The subject matter of the new baby is very much in demand, and this book can take its place along with the others, such as Hoban's Baby Sister for Frances (Harper, 1964) and Fred Rogers's The New Baby (Putnam, 1985) for exploring young children's fears about new siblings.
