About this Item

LOC number matches 1966 copyright date; no later editions or printings mentioned. Not price clipped; original $4.95 price showing. Red ink faded to jacket spine, though titles still easily legible there. Dated Sept. 8, 1966, warmly inscribed to long-time talk show host Martha Crane of WLS radio, Chicago, and signed in red ink to the half-title page "Charlie Siragusa, Chicago." Author Siragusa "was a key member of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics for almost twenty-five years. At the time of his retirement, he held the second-ranking position in the organization, that of Deputy Commissioner of Narcotics." The "as-told-to" guy, Robert Wiedrich, was "an ace reporter for the Chicago Tribune." Now that they've been at it for 80 to 100 years, perhaps the heirs of Charlie Siragusa can tell us when they expect to win their War on Drugs -- legacy of the century-old "hygienic movement" -- and how's it's helped to enhance the quality of life in our inner cities. (See Genesis 1:29.) 235 pp. including glossary defining such terms as "junkie," "pusher," and "Mary Jane." Reduced from $100. Bookseller Inventory # 003795
